About Raccoons

Raccoons are medium-sized mammals native to North America. These pests will enter your home looking for food, shelter or a safe place to give birth. Raccoons typically remain in spaces outside of your home’s living area such as inside walls, attics and crawl spaces. If you see or suspect that you may have raccoons somewhere in your home, do not take this infiltration lightly.

Raccoons can pose serious health risks in addition to the harm of being bitten or scratched. They carry ringworm, a parasite that can result in a fatality for humans and leptospirosis, a bacterial infection, can be transmitted through their urine.  Raccoons are often carriers of distemper, parasites, fleas, and mites that can be transmitted to your pets.

In addition to the health risks they pose, raccoons can also cause significant damage to your home. They typically enter through the roof by either ripping off a piece of the soffit or a roof vent cover and hunker down in the attic. Once inside they will make themselves at home ripping up the pipe and wall insulation, chewing on electrical wires, urinating or defecating inside and more. Repairing the damage they cause can be costly.

Whether a raccoon has wandered into your home by accident or purposely made their way in, you should err on the side of caution and contact the professionals. AMCO Pest Solutions offers professional wildlife control services in New Jersey, New York and Florida to remove raccoons from your home, seal entry points and replace damaged attic insulation. We use TAP attic insulation, a thermal acoustical pest control insulation which is EPA approved and has the Energy star seal of approval.
