An invasive species that came over in a shipment from Asia back in the 1990s stink bugs are a frustration for many homeowners in our New York and New Jersey and service area. While they pose no known harm at this time to you or your property stink bugs are very much a nuisance to have in the home, dropping from the ceiling at gathering at windows. They get their name because if they are crushed they can emit a strong odor.
If stink bugs are just an occasional invader in your home, then gently grabbing with a tissue and flushing them down the toilet is your best bet. When numbers of stink bugs around the property get high then well-timed perimeter spray can knockdown stink bug populations. Stink bug control is a year round protocol. Spring and early fall are the best treatment times. If you wait to call us when populations inside the home are high in the colder months then it is much more difficult for us to address the problem.
Exclusion is also key to stink bug control. Properly caulking cracks and crevices around your home will prevent stink bugs from re-entering in the fall as the weather begins to get colder. Replace broken screens and even seal around mouldings in rooms where stink bugs are appearing most often.
